Is there a tree on your property that you've grown attached to over the years, and now for some reason you're being forced to have it removed? Would you like to be able to save some part of that tree and have it turned into a treasured heirloom instead of having it all just become someone's firewood? If this sounds like something you're interested in, then read on.....

Most of the wood I use at The Feel of Wood, comes from private residents that need to have a single tree removed. Many times I become involved in the actual removal process to ensure the wood is processed to allow the most useful and beautiful pieces a chance to survive and become "works of art" (See About Our Wood for more details).
There's several different arrangements I've made with customers over the years regarding this service, and I'm always willing to take some mutually beneficial approach.Sometimes, people will just ship a large part of their tree for me to make into a piece. Sometimes I'll go and pickup the wood if it's close by (Eugene, Oregon and surrounding areas), or even be involved in the removal as I mentioned above. Sometimes I'll even trade wood for services if the wood is in good condition and there's enough for me to make some additional pieces from. Each case is unique, and I'm willing to talk, so please let me know if you're interested in this service. And yes, I've even had a person give me a tree with the arrangement of making all their holiday gifts for them that year (yes... I charged for that one).
Please Note: If you want your finished product to include the tree's bark, then if
possible, have the tree cut only in the late Fall or Winter months so
the bark has the best chance of staying on the piece. Conifers and other "Evergreens" or softwoods do not make for good woodturning. Also, some fruit and nut woods, madrone, and others have a tendency to check and crack severely during the drying process, and therefore will either require significant additional time or labor to turn into worthwhile pieces. Therefore, I generally suggest limiting this service to hardwoods. Once again, it's a case-by-case basis, so don't hesitate to ask.
